Thursday, June 05, 2008 -- Now That’s What I’m Talkin About

Betsy has been moved from the CCU to a regular room in the oncology unit. Nice room, nice view and nice people. If I haven’t said it before, I’ll say it now; all of the staff throughout AAMC have just been fantastic.

Betsy’s oncologist, Dr. Boice, met wit us last evening. A number of positive things came out of that visit – Betsy’s surgical staples were removed and we discussed getting down to business with a full blown systemic infusion of chemotherapy.

It looks like the previous infusion of chemo into the pleurel cavity did not do much to inhibit the buildup of fluid there, so the next step is to attack the real cause through a systemic infusion. That will commence sometime this evening with a 24 hour period of Taxol followed by a period of Cisplatin.

Dr. Boice hopes to have Besty home maybe by Sunday. Betsy made it quite clear that she wasn’t going to go home until the fluid issue was resolved once and for all. She was quite adamant that this time, when she goes home, she wants to stay there. Now that’s what I’m talking about!

As always I’ll post updates as new information rolls in.

In the meantime please keep up with your prayers and comments.

Betsy/Tom

I saw your name on the HIFLD list and got excited Tom. I was looking forward to seeing you in Morganstown. Then I found out about Betsy and my heart broke.

Lara and I just want you, Betsy and the boys to know that you are in our hopes and prayers.

If any of your clan need anything, Tom ... you know how to find me.

Dear Aunt Betsy,

I found a prayer for you today. I wanted you to know I am thinking of you and this is what it said:

Dear Father,

I now have developed a disease which I have often feared. I am afraid. I am lonely. Questions seem to crowd my mind: Will I be cured? Will there be pain? How long will I live? How will my family handle this? I ask with all my heart that I be healed. I trust You to be with me through it all. I trust You to give me peace, to let me live with hope, to relieve any pain, and to let me know Your presence. I trust You to bring my loved ones close to me during this illness, that we might support each other, and that Your great hands might support us all. I pray that from now on, whether sick or well, I will live each day as if it were eternal, and trust my eternity to You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I pray for all these things for you, Tom, Andrew and Kevin.
All my love, Jenn

Hi, Betsy and Tom,
No matter how fine the private room and its attendants, I'm cheering for Betsy's go-home-and-stay-home option! May it happen very soon. Did you know that Taxol is made from the yew tree? Nice use of backyard plantings, eh?You're in our hearts and prayers daily...heck, more like hourly!
